Francesco Bagnaia Discovers Two Key Things to Help Him Ahead of MotoGP Le Mans. |
JAKARTA - Francesco Bagnaia may have finished just 19th in the combined timesheets at the Jerez MotoGP test, but don’t be fooled—he’s actually feeling pretty positive about the results. Why? Because he found “two things” that he believes will make a big difference ahead of the next race in Le Mans.
After a frustrating third-place finish in Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix, where he couldn’t pass Fabio Quartararo, Bagnaia entered the test with a clear goal: to improve his setup, especially for faster corners.
“At first, the plan was to focus on the setup, to help me feel more comfortable on the bike in the fast corners,” Bagnaia said. “But with all the gusty wind, it was hard to clearly understand the differences.”
Because of the unpredictable wind conditions, Bagnaia and his Ducati Lenovo team decided to switch things up and return to a standard setup. They also tested some parts that teammate Marc Marquez had been using since the start of the season.
“It’s tough to work on setup under these conditions,” he continued. “So we decided to go back to the standard setup and try some new parts that Marc has been using from the beginning of the year. I had removed them because the tests in Thailand were pretty chaotic.”
Despite his position on the timesheets, Bagnaia left the test feeling optimistic.
“I’m happy with a few things, and we’ll bring them to Le Mans from the start,” he said. “There are other things I’ll try again, maybe if we get a sunny first day, like the swingarm. But overall, I’m happy because we found two things that I think will help.”
Bagnaia didn’t reveal exactly what those two things were but did confirm that they’re not related to the chassis.
“It’s hard to say, but it’s not about the chassis,” he explained. “Marc, who was the most comfortable, tried them during pre-season testing, while I didn’t because I wasn’t in the right condition at the time.”
Marc Marquez topped the timesheets at the test, but a mistake in the grand prix has left him trailing his younger brother, Alex, by one point in the championship standings. Bagnaia is currently in third, 19 points behind Alex.
With Le Mans just around the corner, fans are hoping Bagnaia’s two discoveries will help him close the gap and move up in the standings. Will these changes make a difference? We’ll find out when the lights go out in France!
