Pontianak – To commemorate International Workers’ Day (May Day) 2025, the Pontianak City Police deployed 450 joint personnel to secure peaceful demonstrations held by community and student alliances. The rallies took place at two key locations: the West Kalimantan Governor’s Office and Digulis Roundabout near Tanjungpura University (Untan).

The security operation involved officers from Pontianak City Police, the West Kalimantan Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob), Samapta Directorate, and local military units (TNI). All personnel were stationed early in the morning to ensure everything ran smoothly and safely throughout the event.

The operation was led directly by Pontianak Police Operations Head, Commissioner Joko Sutriyatno, S.H., who supervised the situation on the ground. In his briefing, he emphasized a humanistic and persuasive approach in dealing with protestors.

“We fully support the public’s right to free speech, but we also prioritize maintaining public order and safety,” said Commissioner Joko at the rally site.

Fortunately, the event went off without a hitch. Everything remained peaceful, and the demonstrators delivered their messages in an orderly way. The joint forces provided firm yet friendly security, helping maintain a calm and respectful atmosphere.

The Pontianak Police expressed their appreciation to the public and student groups for voicing their concerns respectfully and peacefully. Authorities also encouraged everyone to continue upholding the spirit of unity and legal awareness during any future public demonstrations.

This year’s May Day rally was a great example of how expressing opinions in public can be done safely and respectfully — as long as everyone works together to keep the peace.
