Windows 11 Will Soon Be Able to Automatically Update All Apps — Even Third-Party Ones! |
Good news for Windows 11 users! Microsoft is currently testing a new feature that will let your PC automatically update all your apps — not just the ones that come with Windows, but also third-party apps. This new system is called the Windows Update Orchestration Platform.
Right now, most third-party apps handle their own updates, often through separate channels. That means users usually have to check for updates manually or rely on each app’s built-in updater. Kinda messy, right? Well, Microsoft wants to simplify all that by creating a unified update platform.
According to Microsoft Product Manager Angie Chen, this new platform is designed to manage all kinds of updates — from apps to drivers — right alongside regular Windows updates.
In short: developers won’t need to build their own update systems anymore, and users won’t need to download updates manually. You’ll even be able to schedule updates based on your activity or battery level — super convenient!
What’s in it for developers? They’ll be able to connect their apps directly to Windows Update, and new versions will appear in the update history, just like security patches or OS updates.
Microsoft has tried before to get developers to publish their apps in the Microsoft Store to make updating easier. But let’s be honest — even though the store has improved, it’s still not the go-to place for most apps.
As for the release date of this new platform? Microsoft hasn’t announced it yet. But it’s definitely something to look forward to.
