Chelsea Targets £50 Million Star, Open to Selling Noni Madueke to Fund Transfer. |
Chelsea is reportedly in talks with Borussia Dortmund about signing Jamie Gittens, and they might sell Noni Madueke to help fund the deal.
The Blues are actively searching for a new winger this summer. Rumors have linked them to Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho, Athletic Club’s Nico Williams, and even Real Madrid’s unhappy star Rodrygo.
Chelsea’s need for a wide player grew after Jadon Sancho left. Unable to agree on salary terms, Chelsea paid a £5 million penalty to send Sancho back to Manchester United.
Even before Sancho’s departure was official, Chelsea had already started negotiations with Dortmund for Gittens. The 20-year-old has had an up-and-down season — scoring twice against Real Madrid in the Champions League but only starting 3 of the last 12 league matches.
Despite his reduced role and some frustration, Gittens is expected to be valued around £50 million. The Guardian supports this price and says Chelsea is “open to offers” for Madueke.
On the flip side, Madueke has had a stronger season. The left-footed winger was a regular starter and helped Chelsea secure a Champions League spot, impressing especially in his new role on the left wing.
However, coach Enzo Maresca criticized Madueke’s work ethic at times, benching him in December and telling him “he must work more.” Luckily, they seem to have settled their differences since then.
After Chelsea won the Conference League by beating Real Betis, Madueke defended his coach passionately, saying, “I don’t understand why people criticize him.” He called the continental title “the start of something important.”
Whether Gittens or Madueke will be part of Chelsea’s future plans remains to be seen.
