Laborer Killed in Muara Angke Over Revenge and Jealousy, Police Say. |
Hey folks! Let’s talk about a recent criminal case that’s been getting a lot of attention, especially around the Muara Angke area in North Jakarta. This isn't just another workplace argument — this tragedy was reportedly fueled by deep-seated resentment and jealousy.
According to the police, a man identified as MY (32) fatally stabbed his fellow contract laborer ABT (39) at the Muara Angke dock. The motive? A combination of old grudges and romantic jealousy.
“Based on initial interrogation, the suspect admitted to killing the victim out of revenge and jealousy,” said AKP I Gusti Ngurah Putu Krishna Narayana, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Tanjung Priok Port Police, as reported by Antaranews on Saturday (June 14, 2025).
How It Happened: Stabbing Outside Muara Angke Fish Market
The stabbing occurred in front of the Muara Angke Fish Auction site (TPI) in Pluit, North Jakarta, on Friday (June 13). Witnesses say the suspect attacked ABT suddenly with a sharp weapon, shocking nearby workers.
Police believe the crime was rooted in a workplace disagreement and the fact that MY's ex-girlfriend is now in a relationship with the victim.
Quick Arrest: Suspect Caught Hours After the Attack
Thankfully, officers acted fast. Within hours of the incident, MY was arrested at around 3:30 PM in the Pluit Permai Blok 10 housing area, North Jakarta.
But it wasn’t an easy arrest. When the police tried to retrieve the knife used in the stabbing, the suspect resisted.
“We were forced to take measured action as outlined in Police Regulation No. 1/2009 by shooting the suspect in the leg,” said Krishna.
Now in custody, MY faces serious legal consequences. He has been charged under Article 338 of the Indonesian Criminal Code for premeditated murder, and Article 351 paragraph 3 for assault resulting in death. If found guilty, he could face up to seven years in prison.
This case is a chilling reminder of how personal issues — especially jealousy and unresolved anger — can spiral into irreversible violence.
Let this be a wake-up call. No matter how intense our emotions might get, resorting to violence only ruins lives — both the victim’s and the perpetrator’s. Communication and conflict resolution are always better than letting emotions take over.
