Kayong Utara, Indonesia - The search operation for a missing teacher named Wahyudin, who disappeared while fishing near a jermal (traditional fish trap structure) in the waters off Pulau Kumbang Village, North Kayong Regency, has been officially called off.

After seven days of intensive efforts, no traces, belongings, or clues related to the victim were found, leading authorities to suspend the search on Sunday afternoon, June 1, 2025.

“On June 1, 2025, the search operation for the missing person Wahyudin bin Abdul Hamid was officially terminated after the seventh day,” confirmed Aipda Heriyanto, head of the patrol post unit (Kamarnit) of the West Kalimantan Water and Air Police Directorate (Ditpolairud) in Telok Melano, on Sunday.

However, authorities emphasized that if new evidence or signs of the victim are discovered in the future, the search operation will resume in accordance with the established procedures and standard operating procedures (SOP).

The joint search operation, which began on the night of Sunday, May 25, 2025, involved personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), Water and Air Police (Satpol Airud), National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), along with assistance from local residents and the victim’s family. The efforts continued tirelessly until the evening of June 1.

Isya Fachrudi, a member of the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) from the Perindo Party, was also actively involved in the search. The search radius was extended as far as Sempadi Island, located in the waters near Siduk Village.

On the fifth day of the operation, Wahyudin’s wife and child also participated in the search. Despite their efforts, no signs of Wahyudin’s whereabouts were found by the end of the day.

According to statements gathered from several local residents, Wahyudin was last seen on the morning of Sunday, May 25, 2025, around 10 a.m., heading out to fish near the Wahab jermal using a small boat equipped with a kato engine. Witnesses reported that his boat was well-stocked with fuel, snacks, and drinks.

It is suspected that Wahyudin may have been struck by strong winds and high waves that occurred later that Sunday afternoon, which could have led to his disappearance.
