Apple is reportedly exploring a major upgrade to Siri by integrating advanced artificial intelligence from leading companies like OpenAI and Anthropic. According to Bloomberg, Apple has been testing AI models from these companies as part of its efforts to make Siri more competitive in today’s AI-driven landscape.

Why Is Apple Rethinking Siri?

For several months now, Apple has been working behind the scenes to bring Siri back to the forefront. The relaunch of an enhanced version of Siri was initially planned for March but was delayed due to limited progress. To accelerate development, Apple assigned Mike Rockwell—former head of the Vision Pro team—to lead the AI initiative.

Reports suggest that Apple CEO Tim Cook has lost confidence in the previous Siri leader, John Giannandrea, and is betting on Rockwell to push things forward.

Testing OpenAI, Anthropic, and In-House AI Models

Rockwell's team is now evaluating multiple AI technologies, including:

  • Claude, developed by Anthropic

  • ChatGPT, created by OpenAI

  • Gemini, Google’s flagship AI model

  • Apple’s own internal large language models (LLMs)

Bloomberg sources say Anthropic’s Claude currently stands out as the frontrunner.

Apple’s Competitors Are Already Moving Fast

While Apple continues to explore its options, its competitors have already made significant moves. Google has integrated Gemini into its Pixel smartphones, and Samsung has partnered with Google while reportedly planning a deal with Perplexity AI, a rising AI startup with ties to Motorola.

Interestingly, Apple has also considered acquiring Perplexity as part of its strategy to gain a stronger foothold in the AI race.

No Final Decision Yet, But Big Changes Are Coming

As of now, Apple hasn’t made a final decision on whether to go with a third-party AI model or stick with its own. There’s still a possibility that the next-gen Siri could be powered entirely by Apple’s in-house AI.

Either way, it’s clear that Apple is taking AI seriously—and Siri is at the center of that transformation.

Budget MacBook and New Wearables Also in the Works

In addition to revamping Siri, Apple is reportedly developing a more affordable MacBook powered by the A18 Pro chip—the same chip used in iPhones. The company is also preparing seven new wearable devices, signaling an expansion of its hardware ecosystem.

Apple's potential partnership with OpenAI or Anthropic marks a bold shift in its AI strategy. While nothing is confirmed yet, these developments suggest that a smarter, more capable Siri could be just around the corner. For tech enthusiasts and Apple fans alike, the coming months will be worth watching.
