Purwakarta, West Java – Police have uncovered an illegal operation involving the refilling of government-subsidized 3-kg LPG into larger, non-subsidized gas cylinders. The raid took place at a warehouse located in Gang Sawo, Purwamekar Subdistrict, Purwakarta, and was carried out by the Purwakarta Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

The illegal activity involved refilling subsidized LPG into other cylinders using modified gas injection tools. This dangerous and unlawful practice had been ongoing for five months, allowing the perpetrators to operate under the radar.

Three suspects were arrested in the operation:

  • ID (44) – the main perpetrator who performed the gas injection.

  • HS (41) – supplier of the gas cylinders and distributor of the illegal product.

  • UG (44) – assisted in the distribution process.

Purwakarta Police Chief, AKBP I Dewa Putu Gede Anom Danujaya, revealed that the operation aimed to profit from subsidized gas meant for low-income communities. Over five months, the suspects earned around Rp 69.6 million from their activities.

Police confiscated a number of items from the scene, including:

  • Dozens of LPG cylinders of various sizes

  • Modified gas injection tools

  • Capseals (cylinder seals)

All three suspects are being charged under Article 55 of the Oil and Gas Law and the Consumer Protection Law. They face a maximum prison sentence of 6 years and a fine of up to Rp 60 billion.

West Java Police spokesperson, Commissioner Hendra Rochmawan, emphasized that this case demonstrates the police's commitment to protecting the distribution of subsidized energy.

“Illegal actions like this severely harm both the public and the state,” he stated on Monday, July 28, 2025.
