After spending almost his entire life with Newcastle United, Sean Longstaff has officially made the move—and it’s a big one. The 27-year-old midfielder just signed a four-year deal with Leeds United, and according to him, it already feels like home.

Longstaff isn’t just any transfer. This is a player who’s been with Newcastle since 2006, worked his way through the academy, and played in over 200 matches for the senior squad. But as things started to shift at St. James’ Park, he knew it was time to take on a new challenge.

Leeds reportedly paid more than Rp250 billion (that’s over £12 million) to bring Longstaff to Elland Road, and it seems like they made all the right moves to win him over.

“I got that feeling from the first conversation,” Longstaff told LUTV after signing. “You could tell they really wanted me. That kind of belief gives you so much confidence, and I just want to give everything back to the people who showed that faith in me.”

Longstaff also opened up about how tough the decision was to leave his hometown club. “Honestly, it was never going to be easy to walk away from Newcastle. I wasn’t just going to leave for any team—it had to feel right for me and my family. And Leeds feels right. It’s the perfect place.”

He also admitted the Elland Road crowd always left a big impression on him as an opponent—and now he’s ready to have that energy behind him instead.

“Every time I played at Leeds, the place was rocking. The atmosphere was insane and it was always a hard place to play. I’m really excited to have that crowd on my side now.”

Last season, Longstaff struggled for regular minutes under Eddie Howe. He was mostly used as a sub, totaling just 787 minutes in Premier League action. And during Newcastle’s run to the EFL Cup title against Liverpool, he had to watch the final from the bench despite featuring in earlier rounds.

Now at Leeds, who are back in the Premier League after winning the Championship, Longstaff is ready to turn the page and start fresh. He’s one of five new signings this summer, joining Sebastiaan Bornauw, Lukas Nmecha, Jaka Bijol, and Gabriel Gudmundsson as part of the club’s big plans.
