Pedro Acosta Calls Australian MotoGP the Toughest Race of the Year: “It’s a Real Mental Battle!

KTM rider Pedro Acosta has described the 2025 Australian MotoGP at Phillip Island as the most mentally demanding race of the year. The 21-year-old Spaniard is determined to push his limits and finally claim his first premier-class podium at the iconic seaside circuit.

A Tough Memory from Last Year

Acosta returns to Australia with renewed motivation after a rough experience in 2024. Last season, his debut at Phillip Island was cut short after a heavy crash in the sprint race, forcing him to miss the main event.
“Honestly, last year wasn’t fun at all,” Acosta recalled. “I missed a lot of track time and couldn’t get many laps together. FP2 was wet, and qualifying turned into a mess.”

Bouncing Back Stronger in 2025

This time, Acosta arrives with confidence after finishing second at the Indonesian Grand Prix 2025. He believes KTM’s bike has improved significantly, especially on fast and flowing circuits like Assen, Silverstone, and Phillip Island.

“For sure, it’s the hardest race of the year mentally,” Acosta said during Thursday’s press conference. “There aren’t many tracks in the world where you can go that fast next to the sea with such strong winds.”

“But we’ll try to enjoy it. It’s true that this isn’t my best track, but also true that KTM has improved on circuits like this. Our goal is to stay consistent, fight for the top five, and avoid mistakes like we did in the sprint race.”

Unpredictable Race Weekend Ahead

This year’s Australian Grand Prix is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable races of the season. With top riders like Marc Marquez, Jorge Martin, and Maverick Vinales sidelined due to injuries, Acosta suddenly finds himself among the top favorites for victory.

“Let’s cross our fingers,” Acosta said with a grin. “In 2023, Brad Binder was fighting for the win, and last year he was in the top three. Let’s see how we can start the weekend.”

Staying Focused and Consistent

Despite the open opportunity, Acosta emphasized that his main focus is consistency and clean performance rather than pressure to win.

“We’ll get on the bike tomorrow and see how I feel,” he said. “If we can put everything together, it could be a great weekend for us. But as always—no expectations.”

Pedro Acosta arrives at Phillip Island with high spirits and strong determination. After the disappointment of last year, he’s ready to face one of MotoGP’s toughest challenges head-on, mentally and physically.

With several big names out, the door is wide open for Acosta to finally grab his first MotoGP victory — if he can keep his cool and maintain that sharp focus.
