| Ducati MotoGP Shock: Fermin Aldeguer Suffers Femur Fracture Ahead of Pre-Season Testing. |
The MotoGP paddock has been hit by unexpected news. Ducati rider Fermin Aldeguer has suffered a serious injury after a training crash, just weeks before the official pre-season testing gets underway.
Gresini Racing confirmed that the young Spaniard fractured his left femur during a training session in Valencia on Thursday. The 20-year-old rider is scheduled to undergo surgery in Barcelona on Friday, dealing a major blow to his preparations for the upcoming season.
Aldeguer made his MotoGP debut last season with Gresini Racing aboard a 2024-spec Ducati. Despite being a rookie, he quickly proved his potential. His consistent performances earned him the Rookie of the Year title, with the highlight being his maiden MotoGP victory at the Indonesian Grand Prix.
The 2025 season was expected to be a big step forward for Aldeguer, as he is set to ride a 2025-spec Ducati. However, this injury has put his momentum on hold at a very critical time.
In a brief statement, Gresini Racing said that Aldeguer sustained a fracture to the shaft of his left femur during training in Valencia and will undergo surgery in Barcelona. The team has not yet shared further details about how the incident happened.
The timing of the injury is far from ideal. The opening pre-season test for the 2026 MotoGP campaign is scheduled to take place in Malaysia from February 3 to 5. Gresini Racing will also host its team launch event on January 31 in Kuala Lumpur. After Malaysia, testing will continue in Buriram on February 21 and 22, before the season officially kicks off with the Thai Grand Prix the following week.
Femur fractures are known to require a long recovery period, often taking several months to fully heal. As a result, Aldeguer is now in a race against time to be fit enough for the opening round of the season.
Interestingly, Aldeguer’s training crash in Valencia, believed to have happened at the Aspar circuit, comes at the same venue where reigning MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez is making his return to circuit riding. Marquez has been sidelined since fracturing his shoulder in a collision during the Indonesian Grand Prix in October.
Marquez is expected to ride a Ducati street bike in Valencia on Thursday and Friday, under the close supervision of Ducati team manager Davide Tardozzi.
For now, MotoGP fans and Ducati supporters will be hoping for a smooth recovery for Aldeguer. The young rider is widely seen as one of Ducati’s most promising talents, and his absence at the start of the season would be a significant setback for both the team and the championship.
