| Indonesia’s IKN State Mosque Ready for Ramadan 2026, Ministry of Religious Affairs Confirms Full Operational Readiness. |
East Kalimantan, Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs has confirmed that the State Mosque at the Nusantara Capital City, widely known as IKN, is fully prepared to welcome worshippers ahead of Ramadan 1447 Hijri or Ramadan 2026.
The confirmation came after a direct site inspection led by the Director General of Islamic Community Guidance at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Abu Rokhmad, at the IKN State Mosque in Penajam Paser Utara Regency, East Kalimantan.
During the visit, the ministry reviewed the mosque’s physical condition following the completion of construction by the contractor. Key areas inspected included the main prayer hall, corridors, meeting rooms, ablution areas, restrooms, the sermon podium, imam’s room, and other supporting facilities.
According to Abu Rokhmad, the inspection was not only about checking the building structure, but also ensuring the mosque is truly ready to operate. The team identified several supporting elements that still need minor improvements so the mosque can function optimally, especially during the busy Ramadan period.
“Our goal is to make sure all essential facilities are fully prepared to support worship activities and religious services for the community, particularly during Ramadan,” he explained.
Abu Rokhmad emphasized that the IKN State Mosque is expected to reflect the image of Indonesian Islam that is friendly, moderate, and inclusive. For that reason, future mosque management must be supported by professional, trustworthy administrators with strong religious understanding.
He also highlighted the importance of applying the concept of ecotheology in managing the mosque. In his view, the mosque should serve not only as a place of worship, but also as a symbol of harmony between religious values and environmental awareness, in line with IKN’s vision as a sustainable future city.
“The IKN State Mosque must become a national reference point, not only in terms of architecture, but also governance, religious services, and its contribution to civilization,” Abu Rokhmad stressed.
Meanwhile, the Director of Islamic Affairs and Sharia Development at the Ministry, Arsad Hidayat, revealed that several proposed names for the IKN State Mosque are being prepared for submission to the Minister of Religious Affairs. The selected name is expected to represent national values, Islamic identity, and the forward-looking vision of the new capital.
Arsad noted that mosque readiness is not judged solely by physical construction. Attention is also given to interior ornaments, calligraphy, and the accuracy of the qibla direction to ensure worship can be performed properly and in accordance with Islamic principles.
He further underlined the importance of collaboration between multiple stakeholders, including the IKN Authority, local governments, and Islamic higher education institutions. This cooperation is considered essential to ensure the mosque functions effectively as a center for worship, education, and religious development within the IKN area.
From a technical perspective, Nurul Badruttamam, Head of the Mosque Affairs Subdirectorate, stated that detailed inspections were also conducted on supporting facilities. These include ablution areas, restrooms, crowd circulation, and accessibility for all members of society.
In addition, the Ministry of Religious Affairs is designing a mosque library concept that is safe, comfortable, and environmentally friendly. The library is expected to become an open and representative center for Islamic literacy.
All of these preparations are being carried out so the IKN State Mosque can begin phased operations ahead of Ramadan 2026. The mosque is expected not only to be ready for use, but also to deliver broad benefits for the Muslim community and the nation as a whole.
