The Banjarmasin City Government in South Kalimantan has provided free transportation services for residents traveling home during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 H or 2026 holiday. The program aims to help residents return to their hometowns safely while easing the burden of rising travel costs during the annual homecoming season.

Banjarmasin Mayor H Muhammad Yamin HR said the initiative is part of a government program called Mudik Aman Maju Sejahtera (Bamara). The program was designed to ensure that residents can travel in a safe, organized, and comfortable manner during the busy Eid travel period.

According to Yamin, the increasing cost of transportation during the homecoming season often becomes a challenge for many residents who want to visit their families in their hometowns. Therefore, the city government decided to provide free transportation services.

“We prepared this free homecoming program so residents can return home safely and comfortably without being burdened by high travel costs,” Yamin said in Banjarmasin on Saturday.

Free Homecoming Routes Provided

The Banjarmasin City Government has prepared around five buses for this year’s free homecoming program. These buses are expected to transport hundreds of passengers to several destinations across South Kalimantan.

Two main routes have been prepared as part of the program.

The first route will head north from Banjarmasin to the Banua Anam region, reaching as far as Tabalong Regency. Along the way, buses will stop at several locations including Binuang, Rantau, Kandangan, Barabai, and Balangan before reaching the final destination.

The second route will travel from Banjarmasin to coastal areas such as Tanah Bumbu and Kotabaru.

Departure Schedule And Registration

The free homecoming departures are scheduled for March 15–16, 2026. The city government hopes this program will reduce the risks associated with unsafe travel options that often appear during the busy Eid homecoming season.

Residents who wish to participate must register online through a link provided by the Banjarmasin City Transportation Agency.

Online registration will be open from March 6 to March 12, 2026.

After completing registration, participants must attend a verification or re-registration process on March 13–14 at the Banjarmasin City Transportation Agency office.

Requirements For Participants

The government has also set several rules for participants joining the free homecoming program. Each participant is only allowed to choose one destination city.

Passengers are permitted to bring a maximum of one bag and one small suitcase during the trip. They must also arrive at least two hours before the scheduled departure.

Participants are required to carry valid identification documents and must be in good health before traveling.

Because the number of seats is limited, registration will automatically close once the available quota has been filled.

Government Effort To Support Residents

The free homecoming initiative is part of the Banjarmasin City Government’s effort to support residents facing rising transportation costs ahead of Eid.

Through the Bamara program, the government hopes residents can travel home safely, comfortably, and in a more organized way during the 2026 Eid holiday season.

“We hope this program will help the community,” Mayor Yamin said.
