The Bengkayang government launches the Free Nutritious Meal program in Indonesia–Malaysia border areas to improve student nutrition and support education in West Kalimantan.

The Bengkayang Regency Government in West Kalimantan has begun implementing the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program in border areas. The initiative targets communities located along the Indonesia–Malaysia (Sarawak) border, including schools in Ledo District.

Bengkayang Deputy Regent Syamsul Rizal said the program is part of the government’s effort to ensure children in border regions receive adequate nutrition. The initiative aims to support both their health and educational development.

He emphasized that children living in border areas have significant potential, but they require strong support from the government, particularly in terms of access to proper nutrition.

MBG Program Supports Children’s Health And Education

According to Syamsul Rizal, the Free Nutritious Meal program reflects the government’s commitment to the younger generation, especially those living in remote and border regions.

He noted that proper nutrition plays an important role in improving students’ concentration during school activities. Adequate nutritional intake also contributes to healthy physical growth and mental development.

For that reason, the local government continues to encourage programs focused on improving the quality of human resources, particularly through the education and health sectors.

Implemented Through SPPG Ledo District

The MBG program in Bengkayang’s border areas began in late February and is expected to gradually expand to other areas within the regency.

The program is carried out through the Nutritional Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) in Ledo District. Through this initiative, students regularly receive nutritious meals to help meet their dietary needs while attending school.

Local authorities hope the program will run sustainably and reach its intended targets. Schools and local communities are also expected to take part so that the program’s benefits can be fully experienced by students.

The Bengkayang Regency Government views the Free Nutritious Meal program as a strategic step to improve the nutritional quality of students in border regions. With support from schools and communities, the initiative is expected to strengthen the development of healthier, smarter, and more competitive future generations.
