LANDAK – The West Kalimantan Regional Police (Polda Kalbar) reaffirmed their commitment to supporting national food sovereignty by holding the First Quarter Simultaneous Corn Planting program in Nyiin Village, Jelimpo District, Landak Regency, on Saturday (March 7, 2026). The activity was led directly by West Kalimantan Police Chief Inspector General Dr. Pipit Rismanto, S.I.K., M.H.

The program is part of efforts to support Indonesia’s 2026 Food Self-Sufficiency target while strengthening West Kalimantan’s role as one of the main food buffers on the island of Kalimantan.

The planting activity was attended by the Inspectorate of the West Kalimantan Police, senior officials of Polda Kalbar, the Landak Police Chief, the Acting Regent of Landak, provincial and regency government officials, as well as hundreds of local residents and farmer groups.

In his remarks, the West Kalimantan Police Chief emphasized that the corn planting initiative is not merely ceremonial but part of a long-term strategy to boost corn production across the province.

Targeting West Kalimantan as a Corn Production Hub

Inspector General Pipit Rismanto said West Kalimantan, particularly Landak Regency, has strong potential to become a national corn production center.

According to him, the program aims not only to meet local livestock feed demand but also to open opportunities for exports to neighboring regions, including Kuching in Malaysia.

He stressed that the success of the program requires strong collaboration among local governments, the military and police, private sector partners, and farming communities.

The police chief also highlighted the importance of investors contributing to regional agricultural development through community empowerment and productive land utilization.

Land Development Target of 100,000 Hectares

During the event, the West Kalimantan Police Chief instructed his ranks to prepare concrete data on the availability of land that could be used for corn cultivation.

The development target is set at 100,000 hectares of agricultural land that will be gradually utilized to increase corn production in West Kalimantan.

In addition, communities previously involved in environmentally harmful activities such as illegal mining (PETI) are encouraged to shift to corn farming, which is considered more sustainable and economically promising.

He emphasized that the presence of police personnel in the field is not meant to interfere with market mechanisms but to assist farmers in the process.

Police officers will also help oversee fertilizer distribution and ensure that agricultural business activities run fairly and transparently.

Industry Support Expected to Absorb Local Corn

The West Kalimantan Police Chief also noted the presence of several large companies operating in the province that are expected to absorb local corn production.

Companies such as PMP, Javacomfeed, and Charoen Pokphand are seen as key players in creating a sustainable agriculture-based industrial ecosystem.

With industrial support, local corn production is expected to be absorbed effectively, which could help improve the welfare of farmers and rural communities.

Police Ensure Proper Oversight of the Program

Head of Public Relations of the West Kalimantan Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Bambang Suharyono, S.I.K., M.H., stated that the simultaneous corn planting program demonstrates the police’s commitment to supporting strategic programs from both the central and regional governments.

He ensured that every stage of the program, from land preparation to seed distribution, would be properly monitored.

This oversight aims to prevent technical problems in the field and ensure the program runs smoothly.

Bambang also invited all elements of society to support the food self-sufficiency program to help improve the welfare of communities across West Kalimantan.

Symbolic Planting Marks Start of 2026 Planting Season

The activity concluded with a symbolic corn planting carried out by the West Kalimantan Police Chief together with regional leadership officials.

The planting took place on prepared farmland in Nyiin Village, marking the beginning of the first quarter 2026 corn planting season in West Kalimantan.

The initiative is expected to strengthen the region’s agricultural sector while supporting Indonesia’s broader national food security goals.
