OpenAI is making waves again. At its DevDay 2025 conference this week, the company officially introduced the Apps SDK, a developer toolkit that allows mini-apps to run directly inside ChatGPT. This means users can now create Spotify playlists, design posters in Canva, or search for properties on Zillow without leaving the chat window.

The new feature already supports popular apps like Spotify, Canva, Figma, Coursera, Zillow, Booking.com, and Expedia. With these integrations, users can ask ChatGPT to generate playlists based on their mood, a specific theme, or activity, and the playlist will appear directly in their Spotify account. Canva lets users design presentations or posters using simple text instructions, while Zillow helps find homes or apartments based on criteria shared in the chat.

During a live demo at DevDay, an OpenAI representative showcased how fast the integration works. In under a minute, they asked ChatGPT to create a dog-walking service poster using Canva and then turn it into a full presentation. All of this happened in a single chat window without opening new tabs or switching apps. Experts say this could change how people work and create using AI.

“With the Apps SDK, we’re opening opportunities for developers worldwide to build more interactive and useful AI experiences for users,” said an OpenAI spokesperson in a press release. “Our goal is to make ChatGPT a productivity hub for work, learning, and creativity without friction.”

OpenAI also confirmed the ecosystem will expand soon. In the coming weeks, apps like Uber, DoorDash, Instacart, OpenTable, Target, Peloton, and Tripadvisor will join ChatGPT. Users will be able to order food, book restaurants, shop, and even plan trips directly through their AI assistant.

For now, the Apps SDK is available in preview mode for developers. OpenAI plans to launch a full app catalog and monetization system later this year. Meanwhile, ChatGPT users outside the European Union can start trying the mini-apps this week.

The introduction of the Apps SDK is expected to make the chatbot ecosystem more dynamic and multifunctional. ChatGPT is no longer just a Q&A tool; it can serve as a central hub for multiple digital services in one interface. For users, this means more efficient workflows, a personalized experience, and huge potential to automate daily tasks.

Google to Replace Assistant with Gemini and Launch New Smart Speaker in 2026

Google has officially announced a major update to its smart device ecosystem. Starting in 2026, all Google Home and Nest devices will replace Google Assistant with a new AI system called Gemini. Alongside this change, the tech giant from California is also preparing to launch a next-generation Google Home smart speaker powered by AI features and immersive 360-degree sound.

Gemini will serve as the central brain for all Google smart devices released in the past decade. That means even owners of older products—like the first-generation Google Home (2016) or Nest Hub—will be able to experience the upgrade through Google’s Early Access program. The update will extend to smart speakers, displays, cameras, and video doorbells.

According to Google’s official statement, Gemini is designed to understand human speech more naturally and contextually. “With Gemini, users can have free-flowing conversations without repeating key phrases or commands,” a Google spokesperson wrote on the company’s blog. The AI can also pick music based on simple descriptions—for example, “play something relaxing for a Sunday afternoon.”

One of the most anticipated features is Gemini Live Mode, which allows users to talk directly to their devices without saying “Hey Google.” However, this feature will be exclusive to Google Home Premium subscribers, starting at $10 per month.

Google’s new smart speaker also comes with a dedicated AI processor, a LED light ring for visual feedback during interactions, and a 360-degree sound system for a richer audio experience. Users can even group multiple speakers together and link them with Google TV to create a home theater setup.

The new Google Home smart speaker will hit global markets in spring 2026, priced at around $100. This move marks a new chapter for Google’s integration of AI into everyday life. With Gemini’s smarter, more conversational capabilities, Google aims to strengthen its position as a leader in the smart home ecosystem—competing head-to-head with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomePod.

If successful, Gemini could also make its way to other Google platforms like Android and ChromeOS, eventually replacing Google Assistant entirely.
