Drug Dealer Sent by Prison Inmate Caught in Cipinang Detention Center Case

Bareskrim police officers display methamphetamine evidence seized in North Jakarta arrest
Bareskrim police officers display methamphetamine evidence seized in North Jakarta arrest.

Jakarta – The Narcotics Crime Directorate of the Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) successfully busted a methamphetamine (sabu) distribution ring in Pademangan Timur, North Jakarta, on Thursday, August 7, 2025. One suspect, identified as R, was arrested and is believed to have acted on orders from an inmate inside Cipinang Detention Center.

Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, Director of Narcotics Crime at Bareskrim Polri, explained the case timeline. “This case started in August 2025 when our intelligence received information about a meth shipment headed to the Kampung Bahari area. Our team immediately launched an investigation,” Brigjen Eko said on Friday, August 8, 2025.

The Sub-directorate 5 unit tracked and stopped a suspicious sedan near Kemayoran at around 5:06 PM after following it from Kalideres. “During a search, officers found two bags containing methamphetamine in the car’s trunk. Initial questioning revealed that one of the two men was just the driver,” added Brigjen Eko.

According to suspect R’s statement, the meth shipment was ordered by a man incarcerated in Cipinang Detention Center. Following this lead, the team coordinated with Cipinang prison officials to further the investigation. The evidence and suspects were taken to Bareskrim’s Narcotics Crime Directorate for deeper interrogation.

This arrest highlights that drug trafficking networks continue to operate by using inmates as masterminds. Law enforcement authorities are urged to tighten supervision inside correctional facilities. The police also encourage the public to stay vigilant and actively report any narcotics activities in their communities.
