The Story of Tarman a 74-Year-Old Grandpa Who Married a 24-Year-Old Woman with a Rp3 Billion Dowry in Pacitan.

The love story between Tarman, a 74-year-old grandfather, and Shela Arika, a 24-year-old woman, has caught the public’s attention. Their wedding went viral because of the stunning Rp3 billion dowry and the fact that it took place in Pacitan, East Java. However, behind the viral fame, Tarman’s past has also become a hot topic among netizens.

The Head of Ngepungsari Village, Karanganyar, Central Java, Paryanto, revealed that Tarman once lived in his village. According to him, Tarman had been married to a local woman and even changed his ID card address to Ngepungsari Village.

Before his divorce in 2021, Tarman was known as a trader. But Paryanto mentioned that Tarman was once involved in a fraud case that landed him in prison.

“After the divorce, there was that samurai case. He was jailed in Wonogiri. After that, he disappeared,” said Paryanto when contacted by the media on Friday (Oct 10).

After being released from prison, Tarman reportedly returned to Ngepungsari several times. However, Paryanto admitted that he didn’t know exactly where Tarman currently lives. Some people said he moved to Pacitan.

When asked about the case that led to Tarman’s imprisonment, Paryanto said he didn’t know the details.
“It was something about a samurai case, and then he got reported,” he explained.

Paryanto also confirmed that he had heard about the viral wedding between Tarman and Shela. The wedding with a Rp3 billion dowry became the talk of the town among local residents.
“People here were gossiping about it. They said, ‘Rp3 billion? Maybe the samurai was sold already,’” he joked.

Not long after, wild rumors began to spread online, claiming that Tarman had run off with Shela’s family’s motorcycle and fake checks. The rumor first appeared from a local resident who claimed to be a neighbor of Shela’s family, through a live broadcast on the TikTok account @kandangpacitan22.

In response, Pacitan Police Chief AKBP Ayub Diponegoro Azhar firmly denied the rumors. He confirmed that Tarman did not run away and was actually on his honeymoon with Shela in Purwantoro.

“The circulating information saying that the groom, T, ran away or disappeared is not true. Based on the bride’s family’s statement, the couple is currently on their honeymoon in Purwantoro,” said Ayub on Friday (Oct 10).

Police officers visited the bride’s family home along with the local police chief, village officials, and community security officers to verify the information. To confirm the report, Shela’s parents even made a video call with the couple in front of the officers.

“The video call was done directly by Shela’s parents in front of the police chief, the village head, community officers, and other local officials,” Ayub explained.

Ayub added that before the video of the Rp3 billion check wedding went viral, the police had already taken preventive measures.
“We had already mapped out potential issues and coordinated with the Wonogiri Police to prevent possible criminal activities,” he said.

So far, Tarman has not made any public statements about his business activities or his reported time in prison. The public is still waiting for clarification from the elderly man who has recently become the center of online attention.
