Google is preparing a major update for the Chrome browser start page. The company plans to replace the traditional search bar with a new feature called Realbox Next. The design looks like a chat bot window, allowing users to interact and request information more directly. This update is currently being tested with a limited group of users through the experimental NTP Realbox Next feature.
At the top of Realbox Next is a button labeled "Ask Google," with suggested themes below such as "Compare," "Teach me," "Make a plan," and "Explore topic." Google is offering two design versions: Tall and Compact. The Tall version features a two-line block for long queries and contextual suggestions, while the Compact version provides a cleaner, minimalist look. Although the smart suggestion feature is still in early development, the goal is clear: to make Chrome a tool for learning and planning.

In addition to Realbox Next, Google is testing several other new features in Chrome. Users will be able to extract text from videos using Google Lens, create tab groups from the menu, and enjoy an improved reading mode with four new themes. It is still unknown when these features will be available to everyone, but the experiments show Google's focus on making browsing smarter and more interactive.
This change is expected to affect how users start searches in Chrome and maximize the browser’s potential as a learning and productivity tool.
