Thousands of residents flocked to the Special Forces Training and Education Center (Pusdiklatpassus) in Batujajar, West Bandung, on Sunday (August 10, 2025) to witness the TNI Operational and Honor Formation Ceremony led directly by President Prabowo Subianto.
During the event, the President inaugurated General Tandyo Budi Revita as Deputy Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and officially established six new Regional Military Commands (Kodam), along with appointing new leaders of elite military units.
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and several high-ranking state officials were also in attendance.
From as early as 6:00 a.m. local time, traffic heading to Batujajar was already congested, with long queues stretching all the way to the Cimareme-Batujajar intersection.
The enthusiasm of the public was high, as many wanted to see the military parade and the rare public display of Indonesia’s main defense systems (alutsista).
In addition to inaugurating the Deputy Commander, President Prabowo also appointed three elite force commanders: Lt. Gen. Djon Afriandi (Kopassus), Lt. Gen. (Mar) Endi Supardi (Marine Corps), and Air Marshal Deny Muis (Quick Reaction Forces Corps/Korpasgat), all of whom now hold three-star ranks.
The President also appointed Air Marshal Andyawan Martono Putra as Commander of the newly formed National Air Defense Command (Kohanudnas) of the Indonesian Air Force, a new structure aimed at strengthening the nation’s air defense.
Alongside the six new Kodam, the TNI also established 14 Regional Naval Commands, three Regional Air Force Commands, one Air Operations Command, six Kopassus groups, 20 Territorial Development Brigades, one Marine Infantry Brigade, one Korpasgat Regiment, 100 Territorial Development Battalions, five Marine Infantry Battalions, and five Korpasgat Command Battalions.
TNI spokesperson Maj. Gen. Nugraha Gumilar stated that this major restructuring aims to strengthen the national defense posture while ensuring more equitable command distribution across Indonesia.
“With these inaugurations, the TNI will be more responsive to dynamic threats across the nation,” he said.
The military parade showcased an array of defense equipment, from armored vehicles and attack helicopters to special forces combat gear, drawing great excitement from spectators.
The inauguration of six new Kodam and the elite force leaders is expected to enhance the speed of response to potential threats, natural disasters, and humanitarian operations.
With a more complete structure, the TNI will be able to operate more efficiently, swiftly, and in better coordination across land, sea, and air.
In the coming months, more joint inter-service training exercises are planned to strengthen Indonesia’s defense synergy.
