Lexar has just introduced the ES5 Magnetic Portable SSD, a portable storage device that can attach to iPhones using MagSafe. The product also comes with a metal ring for mounting on other devices or flat surfaces. The ES5 works with any device that has a USB port and offers read and write speeds of up to 2000 MB/s.
Compared to the previous model, the Lexar Professional Go Portable SSD, the ES5 is twice as fast. The device is rated IP65 for dust and splash resistance, though it is not fully waterproof. Another standout feature is its durability, as it can survive drops from up to three meters. Each unit comes with a short USB-C cable that attaches to the body like a tether.
When connected to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, the ES5 allows recording Apple ProRes 4K video at up to 60 fps. Owners of the iPhone 16 and 17 can shoot up to 120 fps. Meanwhile, Galaxy S25 users can capture Samsung Pro Video at 8K resolution at 30 fps. Lexar says this feature is designed to support content creators who need fast and reliable storage for high-quality video recording.
The ES5 is already available for purchase. The 1 TB version is priced at $120 (approximately 9,900 rubles), and the 2 TB version costs $200 (around 16,400 rubles). A 4 TB version is planned for release in the first quarter of 2026. The ES5 offers smartphone users a fast, secure, and convenient external storage option for both professional and everyday use.
