Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) Head Nusron Wahid officially opened the Table Tennis Championships organized by the National Paralympic Committee Indonesia (NPCI) DKI Jakarta Province at Pluit Village Mall, Jakarta, on Friday (August 8, 2025).
The event was attended by hundreds of athletes, including those with disabilities, in celebration of Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day.
In his speech, Nusron emphasized that sports are a right for all citizens regardless of physical condition.
“This competition is held in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence. With independence, our nation no longer discriminates and provides opportunities for everyone to become athletes, including Indonesian citizens with disabilities,” he said.
Nusron also expressed hope that Paralympic sports in Indonesia will continue to progress and bring pride to the nation.
“Especially NPCI, I hope that through this competition, we can secure as many gold medals as possible in future competitions and the Olympics,” said Nusron.
After the opening, he even played a friendly table tennis match against Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni, with each minister paired with a Paralympic athlete.
The event was also attended by Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency Head Andri Yansyah; Chef de Mission ASEAN Para Games 2026 Reda Manthovani; NPCI Secretary General Ukun Rukaendi; NPCI DKI Jakarta Chair Yasin Onasie; Event Chair Cahaya Manthovani; and several public figures.
More than 300 participants, including general and disabled athletes, joined the competition, making it one of the largest NPCI DKI Jakarta events this year.
The championship is expected to strengthen social inclusion in sports and boost the development of disabled athletes at the regional level.
NPCI DKI Jakarta aims to discover new talents through events like this who can compete at both national and international levels.
