Xiaomi 17 Predicted to Struggle Against iPhone 17 in China

Xiaomi 17 series unveiled in China in September 2025
Xiaomi 17 series unveiled in China in September 2025.

Xiaomi officially launched its flagship Xiaomi 17 series in China on September 25, 2025. However, things might not go as smoothly as planned.

Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that sales of the new lineup could fall short compared to last year’s Xiaomi 15 series.

He estimates shipments will reach only around 8 million units—about 20% lower than the original 10 million target.

The main reasons behind this decline are weak demand for the standard model and growing competition from Apple’s iPhone 17.

Kuo explained that Xiaomi initially expected the standard model to contribute around 50–55% of sales. In reality, it only accounts for 15–20%.

Even though the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max versions are receiving extra orders, they aren’t enough to offset the drop.

“The biggest problem lies in the standard model’s much lower-than-expected sales. This could drag the overall performance of the 17 series below its predecessor,” Kuo noted in his analysis.

The situation is further complicated by Apple’s aggressive push with the iPhone 17, which now comes with a 120Hz display on the base model.

This feature makes it far more appealing to consumers, especially younger buyers who value smoother visuals. As a result, many shoppers are choosing Apple over Xiaomi.

“The iPhone 17 is putting significant pressure on Xiaomi in the premium market. With Xiaomi’s market share at only about 15% in this segment, competition is heating up,” Kuo added.

If sales fail to pick up during China’s Golden Week holiday (October 1–7), which is typically a shopping peak, Xiaomi may have no choice but to slash prices to stimulate demand.

While discounts could help clear inventory, they also risk cutting into profit margins and impacting the company’s financial performance in the next quarter.

For now, Kuo’s forecast mainly concerns the Chinese market, but the ripple effect could spread globally.

If Xiaomi loses its footing in its home market, its position in the international premium smartphone space could also weaken.

For consumers, this might translate to big discounts on the Xiaomi 17 series.

But for Xiaomi, it’s a wake-up call to rethink its strategy and push harder in a highly competitive market.

Xiaomi has officially launched the Magnetic Power Bank Stand with a 10,000mAh capacity in China on Friday (Aug 9, 2025). The device supports fast charging up to 33 watts via cable and up to 15 watts wirelessly, featuring an 80-degree foldable stand that lets users watch videos comfortably while charging.

Designed for iPhones with MagSafe starting from the iPhone 12 series (except the iPhone 16E), this power bank uses 17 built-in magnets to attach securely to the phone’s body. Xiaomi recommends using it without a case for the best results. It also comes with a built-in USB-C cable featuring an L-shaped connector, supporting 33-watt output and 30-watt input. Its wireless charging works with 5W, 7.5W, 10W, and 15W power levels, compatible with Qi-standard devices.

Another highlight is the small front display that shows the remaining battery level, charging status, and error indicators. Inside, it packs two 5,000mAh battery cells totaling 37Wh, capable of fully charging a Xiaomi 15 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro up to two times. This power bank can charge up to three devices simultaneously — two via cable and one wirelessly — and is compatible with devices from Xiaomi, Apple, Huawei, OnePlus, Oppo, and Vivo.

The product is available in four colors: blue, purple, brown, and gray. In China, it’s priced at 169 yuan (around $23). While there’s no official word on its global release, accessories with built-in stands and MagSafe support are expected to grow in popularity among flagship smartphone users.

LG Launches CineBeam S, Mini 4K Projector That Delivers Big Screen from Close Range

LG has officially unveiled the CineBeam S, its latest ultra short throw 4K projector, claimed to be the company’s smallest model yet. The device can project an image of up to 100 inches from just 39 cm away from the wall. Set to hit the European market this September, the CineBeam S will be priced at €1,299 (around $1,420).

Measuring only 110 × 160 × 160 mm and weighing 1.9 kg, the CineBeam S is more compact than most of its competitors, including Samsung’s Premiere 5. It features three separate lasers for red, green, and blue, delivering more accurate color reproduction. However, with a brightness of just 500 ANSI lumens, a dark room is still required for the best viewing experience.

On the features side, the CineBeam S runs on webOS and supports AirPlay 2 and Screen Share, along with HDMI with eARC, USB-C, and built-in 4-watt speakers with Dolby Atmos. It also comes with a 4K upscaler and eight preset modes for different wall colors. While it doesn’t have a built-in battery, the projector uses an included 65W USB-C power adapter. Users can adjust image size and position without moving the unit, with autofocus and automatic keystone correction also supported.

The launch of the CineBeam S expands LG’s portable projector lineup, appealing to home theater enthusiasts—especially those with limited space. With its compact design and modern features, LG is positioning it as a flexible alternative to large TVs. Industry analysts expect demand for ultra short throw projectors to keep growing, especially as the home entertainment trend remains strong post-pandemic.
