Antonio Rudiger, Real Madrid's center-back, is under heavy criticism after receiving a stern warning from the German Football Association (DFB) regarding his uncontrollable behavior during the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona. In the tense match, Rudiger displayed an outburst of rage towards referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea during stoppage time in extra time, which resulted in a red card and a strong response from the DFB.

This incident occurred after Madrid had already made pre-match attacks on the match officials. Rudiger, upset with a refereeing decision, angrily jumped off the bench and appeared to throw an object—likely ice packs used on his knees—at the official. He had to be physically restrained after being shown a red card.

La Liga rules state that Rudiger could face a ban of up to 12 games for this action. The DFB has also reminded the player of his responsibilities as a representative of the German national team. Rudi Voller, the DFB Sporting Director, emphasized that as a national player, Rudiger must demonstrate class in his behavior off the pitch.

"Toni is a world-class player, but as a national player, he must show class in his actions," Voller told SID. "He rightfully demands respect, and he must also show this respect to others without exception."

Voller acknowledged that Rudiger is an emotional and passionate player, but he added that in this case, Rudiger and some of his teammates allowed themselves to get too caught up in the intense atmosphere surrounding the game, which has often been prevalent around the club.

"This is unacceptable. Especially as a German international," Voller continued. "Toni contacted Julian [Nagelsmann, the national team's manager] and me yesterday, and we spoke at length about the situation."

Rudiger, who is the vice-captain of Germany, has already apologized on social media and is not expected to face any further punishment from the DFB. However, Spanish authorities are still in the process of drafting their response to the incident.
