Pedro Acosta Undergoes Arm Surgery, Hopes to Be Fit for French MotoGP. |
Surprise news just dropped from the MotoGP paddock — rising Spanish star Pedro Acosta has undergone surgery on his right forearm to treat chronic compartment syndrome, also known as arm pump. But don't worry — according to his Red Bull KTM team, he's still expected to return in time for the French Grand Prix at Le Mans, scheduled for May 9–11, 2025.
Despite a minor crash during Monday’s test in Jerez, Acosta still managed to clock the fifth-fastest time of the day. The next evening, on Tuesday, he went in for surgery, which KTM confirmed was a success.
“Pedro Acosta underwent successful surgery this evening on his right forearm to treat chronic compartment syndrome,” KTM announced in an official statement. “He’ll remain under observation for 24 hours and is expected to return for the French GP, pending a medical check next week.”
What Is Compartment Syndrome or “Arm Pump”?
For those not familiar, arm pump is a common condition among professional motorcycle racers. It happens when repeated physical stress — especially under heavy braking — reduces blood flow to the forearm, causing pain, numbness, and a loss of strength. In MotoGP, almost every rider has dealt with it at some point and many have undergone surgery to fix it.
The right forearm is especially important because it controls both the throttle and the front brake. Any issues here can seriously affect performance and safety on the bike.
Acosta’s Tough Start to the 2025 Season
Acosta is currently sitting 10th in the MotoGP standings. Like most KTM riders this season, he's had a rough start. Struggles with vibration and handling problems pushed him to go back to the 2024-spec bike in Qatar.
Still, there have been signs of progress. Acosta scored his best finish of the season so far with a 7th-place result at Jerez last Sunday. That’s quite a difference from his rookie season last year, when he already had three podium finishes at this stage.
Eyeing a Comeback in Le Mans
The timing of the surgery seems strategic — done early enough to give him the best shot at returning fully fit in France. With medical clearance expected next week, the team and fans alike are hopeful Acosta can be back in the saddle and ready to fight for strong results at Le Mans.
So, for all the MotoGP fans and Pedro Acosta supporters, keep your fingers crossed! Let’s hope the recovery goes smoothly, and we see him back on track — stronger than ever — at the French GP.
