Pasuruan — East Java Regional Police (Polda Jatim) have officially named four suspects in the kidnapping case of a student (santri) from the Metal Islamic Boarding School (Pondok Pesantren Metal) in Rejoso, Pasuruan City. The announcement followed an intensive investigation by the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation.

The four suspects, identified by their initials S (24), P (60), MHR (32), and AE (34), are residents of Pasuruan and Surabaya. They were arrested after the boarding school reported the incident to the Pasuruan City Police. Authorities apprehended the suspects at the Kebomas toll exit.

According to AKBP Arbaridi Jumhur, Head of Subdirectorate III Jatanras at Polda Jatim, the kidnapping was actually a case of mistaken identity. "The intended target was a man identified as R alias D, who was allegedly involved in a drug-related case. However, the victim who was kidnapped was MS (17), a santri completely unrelated to the case," he explained.

The kidnapping was caught on CCTV and went viral on social media on Monday night (April 21). The footage showed the victim being forcibly taken using a black Toyota Avanza from the Islamic boarding school area.

The victim was later taken to a residential area in Kebomas, Gresik. During the journey, he was threatened with an airsoft gun and physically assaulted by the perpetrators.

Each suspect played a different role. S acted as the executor who gagged the victim with a sarong, AE was the driver and threatened the victim, P assisted in the abduction, and MHR physically assaulted the victim.

Police are still pursuing another suspect, identified as P, who has been placed on the wanted list (DPO). Investigators believe the motive behind the kidnapping is strongly linked to methamphetamine drug-related activities.

This case has drawn significant public attention due to the wrongful abduction of an innocent santri and has raised concerns within the pesantren community. Authorities have pledged to thoroughly investigate the case until all suspects are apprehended.
