The thrilling 3-3 draw between Barcelona and Inter Milan in the Champions League this week didn't just serve up a nail-biting scoreline, but also saw a magical performance from Barcelona’s wonderkid, Lamine Yamal.

At just 17 years old, Yamal marked his 100th appearance for Barca with a stunning goal and an impressive overall performance. Even Inter Milan's coach, Simone Inzaghi, couldn't help but be in awe, admitting that he hasn't seen a player like Yamal in almost a decade!

“I haven’t seen a player like Yamal in the last eight or nine years,” Inzaghi said, clearly amazed by the youngster’s talent.

Beautiful Goal & New Record

Inter took an early 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Marcus Thuram and Denzel Dumfries. But Yamal quickly responded. He took on Henrikh Mkhitaryan, surged into the penalty box, and curled a gorgeous finish off the post. Not only was the goal stunning, but it also made him the youngest player ever to score in a Champions League semi-final, breaking Kylian Mbappe’s record!

On top of that, Yamal came close to scoring again, hitting the crossbar twice. He ended the match with an impressive 102 touches, a remarkable statistic for a winger. He also created two chances and successfully completed six out of ten dribbles.

Lamine Yamal’s Mind-Blowing Stats

  • 100 appearances for Barcelona

  • 22 goals and 27 assists (49 goal involvements!)

  • Scored in the Round of 16, Quarter-finals, and Semi-finals of the Champions League in one season

  • The second teenager after Mbappe to score in three different knockout stages in a single Champions League campaign

Inzaghi Acknowledges Struggles Against Yamal

Although Inter struggled to deal with Yamal’s brilliance, Inzaghi explained that his team adapted in the second half.

“We had to put three players on him, and that naturally opened up space elsewhere,” said Inzaghi. “After that, his level dropped a bit, and we played with much higher quality in the second half.”

Nevertheless, Yamal’s performance remained the headline of the match. There were concerns earlier that he might not play due to a slight discomfort during warm-up.

“He felt a bit of discomfort during the warm-up, but after assessing it, we gave him the green light,” said Barcelona coach Hansi Flick. “And as he’s proven time and time again, he always steps up in big games.”

An Intense Match with Everything Still to Play For

While Barcelona dominated possession, Inter remained a constant threat on the counter-attack. Henrikh Mkhitaryan even had a chance to win it late, but his goal was ruled out for a marginal offside. Inzaghi also admitted that Barcelona’s risky style of play has paid off this season.

“Their strategy is risky, but it’s working. They’ve scored over 150 goals, won two titles, and are still competing for two more,” said Inzaghi. “But our performance was of very high quality.”

Lamine Yamal, Barcelona’s Future Star

Lamine Yamal’s performance in this game was undoubtedly one of the best of the season. At such a young age, he’s already a key player for Barcelona and shows no fear when performing on the grandest stages like the Champions League. It’s no wonder that the football world is starting to take serious notice of him.

Will he be the next Barcelona legend to follow in Messi’s footsteps? Only time will tell. But one thing is for sure: Lamine Yamal is no ordinary player.
