Residents of Kalijaga Street, Pegambiran, Cirebon City were shocked on Tuesday night (April 29, 2025) by an assault that involved an attempted theft. A man identified as AW (45) was apprehended by locals after his violent actions were caught in the act while attempting to steal a motorbike from a coffee seller.

Cirebon City Police Chief, AKBP Eko Iskandar, stated that the suspect was not alone during the crime. He was with another accomplice, who is still being pursued by the police.

"The two were found in possession of firearms and sharp weapons without permits and committed violence together in a public space," explained the Police Chief in an interview on Wednesday (April 30, 2025), as quoted from Citrust.

Incident Details: From Ordering Drinks to Shouting for Help

It all started when the suspect ordered drinks at a fried rice stall that also sold coffee. Shortly after, AW suddenly attacked the stall owner, Toni, from behind, brutally beating him alongside his accomplice.

What makes this incident even scarier is that the suspect was carrying a firearm tucked into his waistband and several sharp weapons stored in two black bags. Fortunately, Toni managed to fight back when the suspect attempted to grab the motorbike keys from his pocket. A struggle ensued.

The suspects tried to flee on their motorcycle, but Toni managed to stop them, causing the bike to fall. Hearing the commotion, nearby residents rushed to the scene and managed to capture one of the suspects, while the other managed to escape.

Evidence Recovered: From Firearm to Stun Gun

Police who arrived at the scene seized a variety of evidence. This included a motorbike without a license plate, a firearm with nine rounds of ammunition, an airsoft gun, several sharp weapons, a stun gun, and a number of mobile phones and other equipment that were believed to have been used during the incident.

According to AKBP Eko, the suspect will face multiple charges, including Articles 1 and 2, Paragraph (1) of the Indonesian Emergency Law No. 12 of 1951, as well as Articles 170 and 351 of the Indonesian Criminal Code. "The maximum penalty could be life imprisonment," he emphasized.

Case Under Investigation

The police are still investigating the case and actively searching for the remaining suspect who managed to flee. The investigation is ongoing to determine if others were involved in the crime.

This incident serves as an important reminder for everyone to stay alert, even in seemingly safe places like food stalls. The quick actions of the community and the bravery of the victim were instrumental in helping the police prevent a major crime. Kudos to the police for their swift handling of the case.
