Viral! Intimidation Incident at a Purbalingga Tavern, Three Suspects Arrested and Facing Up to 9 Years in Prison. |
Purbalingga is making headlines again. A video showing a group of men allegedly intimidating a tavern owner in the Kedungmenjangan area went viral on social media. In the video, the men can be seen demanding a "bonus" after purchasing a large quantity of alcoholic drinks. When their request was refused, they resorted to aggressive behavior.
One of the suspects was even filmed climbing onto the tavern's display table. Their actions upset the local community, and the video quickly spread online.
The Purbalingga Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) responded swiftly to the incident. Within a short time, three of the five individuals caught on video were arrested. The suspects are ATA (44) from Kemangkon, DS (33) from Kutasari, and EP (41) from Bukateja. They have now been officially charged.
During a press conference on Tuesday (April 29, 2025), the Purbalingga Police Chief, AKBP Achmad Akbar, explained that two separate violations were uncovered during the investigation.
“The first offense is extortion and threats committed by the suspects. The second offense is the sale of alcohol without a proper permit, which violates local regulations,” the Police Chief said.
The three suspects have been detained and charged with multiple criminal offenses under the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP), including Articles 368, 335, 369, and 55. They could face up to 9 years in prison if convicted.
In addition to arresting the suspects, the police also confiscated eight bottles of alcoholic beverages from the scene. The violation of local regulations is being processed through a light criminal offense (tipiring) procedure, handled by the Satreskrim and Satsamapta units.
Although the suspects were seen wearing clothing with markings of a local mass organization (ormas) in the video, Police Chief AKBP Achmad Akbar emphasized that the investigation is focusing solely on the criminal acts, not the group’s identity.
“We want to make it clear that our focus is on the actions of the suspects, not their group affiliations,” he stated.
The police chief also urged the public not to hesitate in reporting any form of extortion, intimidation, or illegal activities to law enforcement.
This case serves as an important reminder for everyone. Acts of intimidation, especially those involving extortion, can result in serious legal consequences. It's also a reminder that selling alcohol must be done according to the law. Hopefully, this case will inspire others to respect the rules and work together to maintain public safety.
