Why France Can’t Copy PSG’s Playing Style, Says Didier Deschamps. |
When it comes to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), they’ve been making big waves lately. Under coach Luis Enrique, the team has impressed with a fast, attacking style of play. Just recently, they won the Champions League in a huge 5-0 victory over Inter Milan — the biggest margin ever in a Champions League final!
Several PSG stars like Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, and Bradley Barcola really shined. For example, Doue scored two goals and assisted one in the final, which is a rare feat on such a big stage. But even with all this success, France’s national team coach, Didier Deschamps, says that it’s tough for the French national team to copy PSG’s style.
Why is that?
Deschamps points out that PSG’s key players spend a lot of time training and playing together in the same club. Meanwhile, the national team’s players come from many different clubs and have limited time to practice as a team. Plus, some of PSG’s important players like Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, and Vitinha aren’t even French, so you can’t expect the French team to replicate what PSG is doing.
Deschamps explains:
"At a club, you train together every day and play matches regularly, so the team’s chemistry is strong. But with the national team, there’s much less time to build that connection."
Even talented players like Dembele, Doue, and Barcola have to compete for the same spots, so it’s not always possible for them to play together as smoothly as they do at PSG.
On the other hand, Deschamps also talked about France’s upcoming Nations League semifinal against Spain, which features young star Lamine Yamal. The Barcelona winger is getting compared to Kylian Mbappe when he was starting out.
Deschamps said:
"Yamal is an extraordinary player — one of those rare talents you see only a few times. He’s consistently impressive at a young age, just like Mbappe was."
So even though PSG is dominating and turning heads, Deschamps believes the French national team needs to build its own style based on the players it has and the time they get to prepare together. You just can’t copy a club’s style, especially one as unique as PSG’s.
