Breakthrough! Non-Hormonal Male Birth Control Pill Passes Human Trial — Safe and Promising |
Jakarta – Exciting news from the medical world! For the first time, scientists in the United States have successfully completed the first phase of clinical trials for a non-hormonal male birth control pill called YCT-529. The result? This experimental drug has been proven safe for human use with no serious side effects.
YCT-529 is a groundbreaking male contraceptive pill developed by a research team from the United States in collaboration with the biotech company YourChoice Therapeutics. What makes it unique is that it’s non-hormonal, unlike most male contraceptive options in development that often fail due to hormonal side effects.
The initial trial involved 16 men aged 32 to 59 who had previously undergone vasectomies, as a precautionary measure. Participants were given varying doses, both on an empty stomach and after meals, to assess how the body absorbs the drug.
YCT-529 works by blocking the RAR-alpha protein, a retinoic acid receptor crucial for sperm maturation. In simple terms, the pill temporarily stops sperm production without affecting a man’s hormonal balance.
During the phase one trial, no serious side effects were reported. There were no issues with heart rhythm, mood changes, inflammation, or sexual dysfunction. This positive outcome paves the way for larger-scale trials, focusing on long-term safety and effectiveness.
Before reaching human trials, YCT-529 was tested on mice and primates, showing up to 99% effectiveness. Even better, the effects were reversible, with fertility returning within 4 to 6 weeks after stopping the medication.
If future trials go smoothly, YCT-529 could become the first non-hormonal male birth control pill to reach the market. Researchers estimate the optimal dose will be close to 180 milligrams per day. However, the price has not yet been disclosed.
