Tangerang, Indonesia – The discovery of a woman’s decomposing body inside a floating drum has shocked residents near the Cisadane River in Tangerang. Police have confirmed that the victim showed clear signs of violence, sparking a full-scale investigation.

What Happened?

On Sunday evening (July 27, 2025), local residents noticed a strange smell coming from a large drum floating in the Cisadane River, Karawaci area. When authorities arrived and opened the drum, they found a female corpse in an advanced state of decomposition.

According to Tangerang City Police Chief, Commissioner Raden Jauhari, the victim had suffered severe physical trauma.

“There are signs of violence on the victim’s body. We're continuing the investigation to determine what exactly happened,” said Commissioner Jauhari during a press conference on Monday (July 28, 2025).

Who Is the Victim?

Initial forensic analysis suggests the victim is a woman estimated to be between 25 and 30 years old. However, her identity remains unconfirmed.

Police are conducting DNA testing, analyzing fingerprints, and using facial recognition technology to match the body to missing persons reports.

“We’re now working on identifying the victim, and there’s an early indication of who she might be. We’re trying to match it with existing missing persons reports,” Jauhari added.

Where and When Was the Body Found?

The body was found in the Karawaci area of Tangerang on Sunday night, floating inside a sealed drum along the Cisadane River. The disturbing discovery was first reported by residents who noticed a foul odor and immediately contacted the police.

What Are the Police Doing?

Law enforcement is taking this case very seriously. In addition to forensic testing, police are reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding areas, interviewing witnesses, and checking all recent reports of missing women.

Investigators also believe the way the body was concealed — sealed inside a drum and dumped in a river — indicates an attempt to hide evidence and delay identification.

Why Is This Case Alarming?

The brutal nature of the crime has raised concerns about public safety in the area. The fact that the perpetrator used a drum to dispose of the body suggests premeditation and intent to cover up the crime.

Residents are now more alert, and discussions around neighborhood safety have become a major concern in the wake of the discovery.

How Can the Public Help?

Commissioner Jauhari has called on the public to assist with the investigation. Anyone with information about a missing person matching the victim’s description — or who may have seen suspicious activity near the river — is urged to contact the local police.

“Public information is critical in solving this case. We will follow up on every tip to uncover the truth and bring the perpetrator to justice,” said Jauhari.
