Bandung – The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) officially kicked off the Indonesia Science, Technology, and Industry Convention (KSTI) 2025 from August 7–9, 2025, at Sasana Budaya Ganesa (Sabuga), Bandung. The event is part of the government’s strategy to strengthen the foundation toward Indonesia Emas 2045 by developing a national industry driven by research, science, and technological innovation.

President Joko Prabowo Subianto attended as the keynote speaker, announcing an ambitious target of 8% economic growth within the next five years. “Our national industrialization strategy will focus on downstreaming, mastering technology, and strengthening human resources,” said Prabowo. He emphasized that this vision aligns with Asta Cita, particularly point four on human capital development and point five on continuing downstreaming and industrialization.

Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, highlighted the urgency of building technological capacity and national talent. According to him, KSTI 2025 serves as a strategic platform to connect research excellence, industrial creativity, and clear national policy direction. “Science and technology mastery must be maximized to achieve people’s welfare. Researchers and academics have an honorable duty to advance industries,” he stated.

KSTI 2025 will produce a national research roadmap in eight strategic sectors: energy, defense, digitalization (AI and semiconductors), downstreaming and industrialization, health, food, maritime, and advanced materials and manufacturing. These sectors are considered essential to accelerate Indonesia’s transformation toward a globally competitive knowledge-based economy.

The event gathers over 1,000 top STEM researchers, more than 400 university rectors and vice-rectors, dozens of Indonesian diaspora members, hundreds of lecturers, professors, representatives from ministries and government agencies, state-owned enterprises, and industrial partners. Notable figures such as Nobel laureates Konstantin Novoselov and Brian Paul Schmidt are also featured speakers. Alongside panel discussions, KSTI 2025 showcases a technology innovation exhibition and national industrial policy forums.

With the presence of thousands of scientists and key stakeholders, the government hopes KSTI 2025 will strengthen synergy between research, higher education, and industry. This initiative is expected to produce world-class human resources capable of leading Indonesia toward sovereignty, self-reliance, and global competitiveness.
