Indonesian netizens are buzzing over a free VPN proxy that claims to unlock full access to Japanese and Korean videos. The trend has gone viral across several Facebook Pages in Indonesia since late September 2025.

Many users are interested because this free service is said to bypass restrictions, especially for popular Japanese and Korean entertainment content that young audiences are craving.

Several viral posts on Facebook shared links and guides on how to use the free VPN. Based on monitoring, most of the pages promoting it focus on Asian entertainment such as Korean dramas (K-dramas), anime, and Japanese music concerts.

“For those struggling to watch Japanese or Korean videos because of restrictions, now there’s a free VPN. Just click, choose a server, and you’re in,” wrote an admin of a fanpage on Sunday (Sept 28, 2025).

Meanwhile, cybersecurity expert Donny BU from ICT Watch reminded users to stay alert. According to him, while free VPNs sound attractive, the risks can be serious.

“Free VPNs often store user data or inject hidden ads. If it’s just for trying to watch entertainment content, it might be fine, but never use it to log in to sensitive apps like banking or email,” he explained.

He also added that some free services may violate regulations if used to access content restricted by copyright rules.

As a result, the rise of free VPN proxy Japan and Korea videos could drive more traffic from Indonesia to Asian entertainment platforms.

However, without proper awareness, users face risks of landing on unofficial sites, data leaks, or even malware attacks.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has advised the public to be wiser in using VPN apps, including reading their terms of service carefully.

Experts predict this trend will continue for weeks, fueled by the massive demand for Japanese and Korean content among Indonesian viewers.
