| iPhone Air vs iPhone 17 Series: Battery Test Reveals Which One Lasts the Longest. |
Tech portal Tom’s Guide has just released the results of a battery endurance test for the ultra-thin iPhone Air and the latest iPhone 17 lineup. The test included continuous video playback and web browsing over a 5G network at 150-nit screen brightness. The outcome shows that the sleek iPhone Air offers decent performance, though it still falls behind the powerful iPhone 17 Pro Max.
In the 5G web browsing test, the iPhone Air lasted 12 hours and 2 minutes. This was only about 45 minutes shorter than the regular iPhone 17, which reached 12 hours and 47 minutes. Moving up the lineup, the iPhone 17 Pro managed 15 hours and 32 minutes, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max topped the chart with nearly 18 hours of use, clocking in at 17 hours and 54 minutes. That makes the Pro Max 48.5% longer-lasting than the iPhone Air.
The gap became even clearer in offline video playback tests. The iPhone Air lasted up to 27 hours, while the iPhone 17 managed 30 hours. The iPhone 17 Pro went further with 33 hours, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max again led the pack at 39 hours. These numbers suggest that despite early criticism over its thin design and assumed weak battery, the iPhone Air’s endurance is actually close to that of the standard iPhone 17.
Still, experts caution that such lab tests don’t fully reflect real-life usage. “Most users don’t spend hours endlessly streaming or browsing without breaks. But these results are useful for setting expectations,” Tom’s Guide explained in its report.
Looking ahead, Apple is expected to continue improving chip efficiency and battery technology to meet the needs of increasingly mobile users. With this comparison, consumers can better decide whether to go for the ultra-thin design of the iPhone Air or the maximum power efficiency of the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
