A heartbreaking incident occurred at a junior high school in Sekadau Regency, West Kalimantan, on Tuesday (October 21, 2025). A student was reported dead after being electrocuted while trying to help his teacher take down a loudspeaker inside the classroom.
Although the victim received medical assistance, his life could not be saved. Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Sekadau Police, IPTU Zainal Abidin, confirmed the incident and shared the initial chronology.
“The victim was actually told not to help, but he insisted on assisting. That’s when the electric shock happened, allegedly due to a malfunction in the loudspeaker,” said IPTU Zainal, accompanied by Public Relations Officer IPTU Triyono and Unit III Crime Investigator IPDA Rio Kalbarino, on Wednesday (October 22).
After receiving the report, police officers immediately went to the scene and conducted a crime scene investigation together with PLN (the state electricity company). Based on the examination, it was discovered that the electric current flowed through the audio cable to the loudspeaker because the amplifier was damaged.
“Even though the amplifier was turned off, electricity still flowed due to a reverse current,” explained IPTU Zainal.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the police seized the amplifier and cables as evidence. So far, there has been no official report from the victim’s family, but resolving the matter through a family approach remains an option for the parties involved.
IPTU Zainal also reminded the public to be more careful when using electrical devices, especially in schools.
“This incident serves as a reminder for everyone to always be alert to the dangers of electricity. Never underestimate electrical equipment, especially in public spaces like schools,” he said.
This tragic event stands as an important lesson for all to prioritize safety, particularly when dealing with electrical appliances and power sources.
