The Preventive Precision Patrol Team from the Ogan Ilir (OI) Police, South Sumatra, successfully arrested a man involved in extortion (pungli) who had been troubling drivers around the Keramasan Toll Gate.
Ogan Ilir Police’s Head of Samapta Unit, AKP Sutopo, explained that the suspect had been tracked since Tuesday (Nov 4) and was finally captured on Wednesday (Nov 5).
“The suspect, identified as Anwar, 25, works as a laborer and resides in the Kertapati area,” said AKP Sutopo.
He emphasized that the police will continue to take firm and measured action against any form of street crime that disturbs public order.
“We’re increasing patrols in high-risk areas and will respond quickly to any public complaints. This is part of our commitment to maintaining safety within Ogan Ilir Police jurisdiction,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ogan Ilir Police Chief AKBP Bagus Suryo Wibowo praised the Samapta team for their quick and decisive response.
“The Ogan Ilir Police fully support the South Sumatra Police Chief’s directive to eradicate street crime. There’s no room for extortionists who harm the community. We encourage residents to report any similar incidents so we can take immediate action,” said the Police Chief.
With this operation, the Ogan Ilir Police hope that residents will feel safer and truly sense the police’s presence as protectors, guardians, and public servants.
