YouTube is rolling out a brand-new feature that makes sharing videos and chatting about them easier than ever. The platform is currently testing an integrated messenger inside the mobile app, allowing users to send videos and start conversations without switching to another app.
This new chat feature supports all types of YouTube content — long-form videos, Shorts, and even live streams. So whatever you’re watching, you can instantly share it with friends and discuss it right away in one place.
For now, the built-in messenger is only available to a limited number of users in Ireland and Poland. Those who have access will see a new tab dedicated to conversations inside the app. Sending a message is simple — just use the usual Share button, then send the video link to someone to start chatting.
YouTube also emphasizes safety. Every video sent through the chat will be checked by the platform’s algorithms to ensure it follows community guidelines. If the content is considered inappropriate, YouTube may block or restrict it. Users can still share video links through third-party apps like WhatsApp or Messenger as usual.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t Google’s first attempt to make YouTube a communication platform. Back in 2017, they tested a similar chat feature, but it was discontinued in 2019 due to low usage. Now, the company is giving the idea another chance with a fresher design and improved system.
With this new in-app chat, YouTube seems to be aiming for a more interactive and personal viewing experience. If the test goes well, there’s a big chance this feature will expand globally — including to users in Indonesia.
