| Married Couple Caught Smuggling 19 Kg of Meth in Jakarta: Lured by Rp26 Million Payment, Now Behind Bars. |
A shocking drug trafficking case has grabbed attention in West Jakarta after police arrested a married couple for acting as couriers of crystal methamphetamine. The couple, identified as ML (43) and RS (41), were captured inside a rented house in the Tambora area, where officers discovered a massive stash of meth weighing 19 kilograms.
West Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Commissioner Twedy Bennyahdi, explained that the arrest began with a public report. Residents had noticed suspicious activities around a boarding house in the Krendang area, which was believed to be frequently used for illegal drug transactions.
“Based on information gathered from a previous investigation, officers from Kalideres Police received reports of recurring transactions in Krendang. Our team immediately moved and arrested the couple on Friday (11/21/25) at their rented house,” Commissioner Twedy said during a press conference on Tuesday (12/2/25).
During the search, officers found 19 large black packages hidden inside the house. Each package contained crystal meth, with a total weight of 19,000 grams—or 19 kilograms. This amount is considered significant enough to supply a wide drug distribution network.
Investigators revealed that the meth was supplied to the couple by someone identified as AB. ML and RS were even provided with travel tickets to pick up the drugs in Pekanbaru. After receiving the package, they were instructed to transport it back to Jakarta by land.
“ML and RS were given tickets and told to travel to Pekanbaru to collect the goods. From there, they were directed to bring the package back to Jakarta using land transportation,” Commissioner Twedy added.
Further investigation uncovered another surprising detail—the 19 kilograms of meth were actually intended to be sent back to Pekanbaru for distribution. However, before the plan could move forward, the couple was apprehended by officers.
“They didn’t have the chance to distribute or deliver the drugs. The unit on the ground managed to arrest them first,” he said.
According to their confession, the couple decided to take the risky job because they were tempted by the promised payment. They were offered Rp26 million upon successfully completing the delivery. On top of that, they were promised an additional package of meth as a bonus.
“If successful, they would receive Rp26 million from AJ plus an extra black package containing meth,” Commissioner Twedy stated.
For their actions, ML and RS are now facing charges under Article 114 paragraph 2, subsidiary Article 112 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph 1 of Indonesia’s Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics. These charges carry severe penalties, considering the large amount of illegal drugs involved.
This case serves as a harsh reminder of how dangerous and deceptive drug networks can be. Big payouts may look tempting, but the consequences are always devastating. The quick response from the community also proves how vital public participation is in helping authorities crack down on narcotics distribution in the city.
