Exciting news for fans of Men in Black! Sony Pictures has officially begun developing a brand-new installment in the legendary sci-fi franchise.
According to a report from Deadline, the studio has tapped Chris Bremner—the writer behind Bad Boys for Life and Bad Boys: Ride or Die—to craft the script.
Project Still in Early Development
At the moment, the upcoming Men in Black film is in its earliest stage. There are no confirmed actors, directors, or producers attached yet. However, sources reveal that Sony plans to send the finished script to Will Smith once it's ready.
There’s a chance Smith could return as Agent J, although it's not guaranteed he’ll take on a leading role. For now, Sony has not officially listed him as part of the project.
Men in Black Remains a Valuable Asset for Sony
Since the franchise launched in 1997, Men in Black has remained one of Sony’s most successful properties. Across the original trilogy and the 2019 reboot Men in Black: International, the franchise has earned approximately $1.904 billion worldwide.
This continued global appeal is one of the main reasons Sony is eager to expand the universe with a fresh storyline.
Producer Deals Still Pending
The studio has not finalized any producer agreements for the new movie. Historically, Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald served as producers on earlier films, while Hollywood legend Steven Spielberg acted as executive producer throughout the entire franchise.
Chris Bremner Continues to Be a Key Writer for Sony
Bremner remains one of Sony’s most trusted screenwriters. His two latest Bad Boys films brought in more than $837.1 million worldwide, showcasing his strong commercial track record. He also penned Netflix’s action film Fast & Loose, which is expected to be Will Smith’s next major role.
