Pekalongan – The Thematic Community Service Program (KKN) on Ecotheology and Land Affairs organized by UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan has officially come to an end. The program, involving around 500 students, was formally closed by the Deputy Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning and Deputy Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), Ossy Dermawan, on Thursday, December 18, 2025.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Deputy Minister Ossy expressed his pride in the students’ real contributions. He emphasized that the participants not only fulfilled academic obligations but also delivered tangible benefits to the community, particularly in supporting the registration of waqf land.

“We are truly pleased to see the dedication and responsibility shown by these students. Over the course of approximately 60 days, they helped facilitate the recording of around 2,000 waqf land parcels. This is an extraordinary achievement,” Ossy said during the withdrawal and expo event of the Thematic KKN.

The Ecotheology and Land Affairs Thematic KKN serves as a pilot project resulting from collaboration between the Ministry of ATR/BPN, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and higher education institutions under the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The initiative aims to accelerate the certification of waqf land to ensure legal certainty and protect religious assets such as mosques, Islamic boarding schools, and educational institutions from potential disputes.

Deputy Minister Ossy also noted that waqf land certification is a key priority for the Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning and Head of BPN, Nusron Wahid. He described the program as highly effective and beneficial to the wider community.

“This program aligns closely with Minister Nusron Wahid’s focus. We extend our gratitude to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Rector of UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid, and the entire academic community. The students’ work has truly made a meaningful impact for the public,” he added.

Similar appreciation was conveyed by the Minister of Religious Affairs, represented by the Coordinator of the Minister’s Special Staff for Public Policy, Media, Public Relations, and Human Resource Development, Ismail Cawidu. He described the collaboration as a historic step in the national effort to document waqf land.

“Thank you to the Minister of ATR and Head of BPN for the strong cooperation and support provided in partnership with UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid. This marks a significant milestone in the recording of waqf land across Indonesia,” Ismail stated.

As a symbol of the program’s completion, Deputy Minister Ossy and Ismail Cawidu removed the KKN attributes worn by the students. Following this, Rector of UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid, Zaenal Mustakim, presented a summary of the students’ on-the-ground achievements.

Zaenal explained that out of approximately 2,000 waqf land parcels identified, around 270 have already received official land certificates. The remaining parcels are still in process due to various administrative challenges.

“In practice, we encountered obstacles such as incomplete documentation. However, all parcels have been identified and geotagged. The next step is to continue the administrative process until the waqf land certificates are fully issued,” he explained.

The event also featured the handover of waqf land certificates to six representatives of nazir by Deputy Minister Ossy and Ismail Cawidu. The ceremony was attended by the Director General of Agrarian Arrangement, Embun Sari; Head of the Central Java Provincial BPN Office, Lampri; Deputy Regent of Pekalongan, Sukirman; and Rector Zaenal Mustakim, along with several senior officials from the Ministry of ATR/BPN.

The conclusion of this Thematic KKN program demonstrates that strong collaboration between the government, universities, and students can deliver concrete solutions, while strengthening the protection of waqf assets for the benefit of the community and future generations.
