Blunt Up Front Again, Tottenham Leave Thomas Frank Frustrated on Emotional Return to Brentford.

Tottenham Hotspur had to settle for a goalless draw when they visited Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Thursday. The 0–0 result left Spurs head coach Thomas Frank visibly frustrated, especially with his team’s lack of sharpness in attack.

The match carried extra emotion for Frank, marking his first return to Brentford since leaving the club. While he appreciated the warm reception from the home supporters, all sentiment quickly disappeared once the game kicked off.

Speaking after the match, Frank was honest and direct. He felt Tottenham simply did not create enough in the final third and made too many unforced errors to seriously threaten Brentford’s goal.

“It was very nice and very special in many ways. I was really happy with the welcome,” Frank said.
“But once the whistle goes, it’s business. You want to win the game, and today we didn’t do enough.”

Throughout the match, Spurs struggled to break down Brentford’s disciplined defensive setup. Their best chance came late on through Richarlison, but the Brazilian’s effort was weak and comfortably saved.

Brentford, meanwhile, thought they had taken an early lead when Kevin Schade scored in the fifth minute. However, celebrations were cut short as the goal was ruled out for offside. The hosts went on to create a few more half-chances through Keane Lewis-Potter, Vitaly Janelt, and Igor Thiago, but none were converted.

Overall, the game offered very little excitement. In fact, it was one of the rare Premier League matches this season with almost no clear-cut chances, testing the patience of fans in the stands.

Frank admitted his team did well defensively, limiting Brentford to just seven shots in the entire match. Still, he felt that was only half the job done.

“Brentford are very strong at home, so controlling them like that was positive,” he explained.
“But we didn’t create enough ourselves. The number of unforced errors was too high, and that hurt us.”

The absence of Brennan Johnson also raised questions. The Wales international was not included in Tottenham’s matchday squad, with reports suggesting he is close to completing a move to Crystal Palace. The deal is believed to be worth around 700 billion rupiah.

Johnson has been an important player for Spurs, making over 100 appearances in all competitions. He scored 27 goals, including a decisive strike in a Europa League final, and provided 14 assists during his time at the club.

“Obviously, something is probably close to being finalized,” Frank said briefly when asked about Johnson’s situation.

For Brentford, the draw extended their unbeaten run in the league to four matches. However, it also added another goalless draw to their Premier League record since being promoted in 2021.

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews felt his side deserved more from the game. In his view, the hosts were the team more likely to claim all three points.

“It’s always great to see Thomas. I respect him a lot and enjoyed working with him last season,” Andrews said.
“I thought we edged it. If anyone was going to win, it was probably us.”

He also pointed out the contrast in tempo during the second half, suggesting Brentford wanted to speed things up while Tottenham tried to slow the game down.

“Their goalkeeper even got booked for time-wasting,” Andrews added. “That pretty much tells the story of the game.”

While Brentford were left slightly disappointed not to win, Tottenham walked away with more concerns than relief. Once again, the lack of cutting edge in front of goal stood out. For Thomas Frank, it was a clear reminder that Spurs still have work to do if they want to be more convincing going forward.
