Ever parked your motorbike “just for a minute” and came back to an empty spot? That nightmare has been haunting many residents in Bandar Lampung. Now, police say they’ve finally caught one of the main players behind it.
Bandar Lampung Police have arrested a suspected motorbike thief believed to be behind 23 separate theft cases across the city. The suspect, identified by the initials RS (22), is a resident of East Lampung Regency and has been actively targeting motorbikes in urban areas.
According to Lampung Police spokesperson Senior Commissioner Yuni Iswandari, the arrest came after officers carried out an in-depth investigation into a string of vehicle theft reports.
“RS has been repeatedly involved in motorbike thefts across Bandar Lampung,” Yuni said in a statement on Tuesday (January 27, 2026).
Police revealed that RS didn’t work alone. Investigators believe he operated with at least one accomplice and carried out thefts at no fewer than 23 crime scenes. The group is considered highly active and had caused growing concern among local residents.
During the arrest, officers secured several key pieces of evidence, including CCTV footage capturing the thefts and the clothes worn by the suspect during the crimes. These items are now being used to strengthen the case.
RS is currently being held at Bandar Lampung Police Headquarters as legal proceedings continue. Meanwhile, police are still on the hunt for another suspect who has been officially listed as wanted.
Authorities are urging residents to stay alert, use double locks when parking their vehicles, and report any suspicious activity to help prevent similar crimes in the future.
