Federico Valverde Shines as Real Madrid Beat Atletico Madrid 2-1, Set Up El Clasico Supercopa Final.

Real Madrid booked their place in the Supercopa de Espana final after edging past Atletico Madrid with a hard-fought 2-1 victory. The win sets up another highly anticipated El Clasico clash against Barcelona, a matchup that always captures global attention.

The semi-final at King Abdullah Sport City exploded into life almost immediately. Just two minutes in, Federico Valverde produced a moment of brilliance with a thunderous free kick that flew into the left corner of the goal, leaving Jan Oblak with no chance. The early strike gave Real Madrid instant momentum.

Unlike Barcelona’s dominant win in the other semi-final, this Madrid derby was tight, intense, and full of tactical battles. Atletico pushed forward with confidence, but Real Madrid showed superior efficiency when it mattered most.

Early in the second half, Valverde once again proved decisive. Playing from right-back, the Uruguayan delivered a perfectly weighted through ball that split Atletico’s defense and allowed Rodrygo to calmly finish, doubling Madrid’s advantage.

Atletico Madrid responded with urgency. In the 58th minute, Alexander Sorloth pulled one back with a powerful header, reigniting the contest and putting pressure on Real Madrid’s back line.

Diego Simeone’s side created several dangerous chances to equalize. Antoine Griezmann came close but was denied by an outstanding save from Thibaut Courtois, while Julian Alvarez missed a late opportunity during stoppage time as his shot drifted wide.

Despite Atletico’s relentless pressure, Real Madrid held firm until the final whistle. The result confirms another Supercopa de Espana final between Real Madrid and Barcelona, marking the fourth consecutive time the two Spanish giants will face each other in the competition’s title match.

From a statistical standpoint, Atletico Madrid were the more aggressive side, registering 22 shots compared to Real Madrid’s eight. However, clinical finishing told the story. Real Madrid made the most of their limited chances, while Atletico struggled to convert dominance into goals.

Federico Valverde emerged as the standout performer. His stunning free kick was not only a highlight of the match but also the earliest free-kick goal scored by Real Madrid since 2013 and the fastest goal in a Supercopa match since the early 2000s. His defense-splitting assist for Rodrygo further underlined his all-around influence.

Rodrygo also delivered an impressive display up front. He accounted for half of Real Madrid’s total shots and recorded the most touches inside Atletico’s penalty area among his teammates.

All eyes now turn to the Supercopa de Espana final. With Real Madrid and Barcelona set to collide once again, fans can expect another dramatic chapter in the legendary El Clasico rivalry.
