Another shocking headline is making waves in Hollywood-related news. Matt Prokop, a former Disney Channel actor best known for his role in High School Musical 3: Senior Year, has been arrested in Texas on multiple serious charges, according to local authorities.
Investigators confirmed that Prokop was taken into custody on December 24 at a residence on Milam Street in Victoria County. Police say the arrest followed an investigation that found he violated the terms of his bond, triggering immediate action from law enforcement.
The list of charges is extensive. Prokop faces misdemeanor counts related to violating a protective order, evading arrest, and resisting law enforcement officers. The situation escalated further when, on December 31, authorities added a much more severe charge: possession or promotion of child pornography, classified as a second-degree felony.
Following his arrest, Prokop was booked into the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office Jail, where he remains as the legal process continues.
For many fans, Matt Prokop’s name once carried a very different image. He rose to fame through Disney projects like High School Musical 3 and the TV movie Geek Charming. However, his public reputation has been overshadowed for years by legal troubles and disturbing allegations.
This latest arrest has also revived memories of his past relationship with actress Sarah Hyland, widely known for her role in the hit series Modern Family. The two began dating after meeting at a 2008 audition for High School Musical 3 and remained together for five years before their relationship ended in 2014.
During that time, Hyland accused Prokop of verbal and physical abuse. In court filings, she claimed that he slammed her against a vehicle and choked her during an argument. She also alleged that months later, Prokop threatened to kill her dog and burn down her home after she attempted to end the relationship.
Concerned for her safety, Hyland received help from her Modern Family co-star Julie Bowen, who reportedly assisted her in leaving the relationship. In September 2014, a judge granted Hyland a restraining order against Prokop.
Although more than a decade has passed, Hyland has openly stated that the emotional scars from abuse do not simply disappear. Speaking in October 2024, she reflected on how trauma can linger long after a relationship ends, describing it as something that stays “in that abused place of your soul.”
Now married to Bachelor alum Wells Adams, Hyland emphasized that healing is a long journey and that the effects of abuse can leave lasting marks on survivors.
As Matt Prokop faces renewed legal trouble, authorities stress that the investigation is ongoing. The case serves as a stark reminder that fame does not place anyone above the law—and that allegations involving violence and crimes against children are treated with the highest level of seriousness.
The public now awaits further developments as the justice system takes its course.
