Imagine how much damage could have been done if this illegal drug had reached the streets. Fortunately, police moved fast—and a major drug operation was shut down just in time.

The Narcotics Directorate of the Jakarta Metro Police has successfully uncovered a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking case in South Tangerang. In this operation, officers seized 5.3 kilograms of crystal meth, preventing it from circulating in the community.

According to AKP Edy Lestari, Head of Unit 5, Sub-Directorate 3 of the Narcotics Directorate, police arrested two suspects identified as S (47) and L (38) on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at around 2:40 p.m. local time.

The arrests took place at two separate locations. The first suspect, S, was apprehended under the Setu Sasak Tinggi flyover in Pamulang. During the search, officers found a cigarette pack containing small plastic bags filled with approximately 6 grams of meth.

Following the initial arrest, investigators expanded the operation to a rented house in Ciputat, South Tangerang. There, police arrested the second suspect, L, and uncovered a much larger stash.

“At the second location, officers found dozens of meth packages in large plastic bags, two digital scales, and three mobile phones,” AKP Edy said on Friday, January 30, 2026.

In total, police confirmed that 5.3 kilograms of meth were seized from both suspects, indicating the operation was part of a large-scale drug distribution network.

AKP Edy added that the case began with public reports about suspicious drug-related activity in the area. Acting on that information, officers launched an investigation that led to the arrests.

Both suspects and all seized evidence have now been taken to Jakarta Metro Police headquarters for further questioning. Authorities are continuing to investigate to determine whether other individuals are involved.

This case highlights how community awareness and quick police action can stop dangerous drugs before they reach the streets.
