West Kalimantan Governor Ria Norsan expressed his appreciation during a welcome dinner for Proliga teams held at the Governor’s Hall on Wednesday night, January 7, 2026. The event was warm and energetic, attended by the Vice Governor of West Kalimantan, Asian Volleyball Confederation President Ramon Suzara, West Kalimantan Police Chief Inspector General Pipit Rismanto, representatives of the Indonesian Volleyball Federation, and regional leaders.
In his remarks, Governor Ria Norsan emphasized that Proliga is more than just a sporting competition. According to him, hosting a major event like this plays a strategic role in driving regional economic growth.
He explained that Proliga 2026 will stimulate small and medium enterprises, increase hotel occupancy rates, and energize various service sectors, including tourism and transportation. These positive impacts are expected to be felt directly by local communities.
The Governor also described Proliga 2026 as a key momentum for West Kalimantan to step onto the international stage. He extended his appreciation to the West Kalimantan Police Chief and all stakeholders who worked hard to bring Proliga back to the Equator Region.
Looking ahead, Ria Norsan revealed that West Kalimantan is projected to host an Asian-level volleyball championship in May 2026. He called this a golden opportunity to prove that the province is capable of organizing international-scale sporting events.
To close his speech, the Governor invited athletes and officials to explore West Kalimantan’s rich culture and enjoy Pontianak’s famous local cuisine. With a population of around 5.7 million people spread across 14 regencies and cities, West Kalimantan is widely known for its harmony and tolerance amid diversity.

He stressed that volleyball must continue to thrive in West Kalimantan because it has a real impact on the regional economy. He also thanked the provincial government as well as regents and mayors for their strong support of various sporting events, including the Kapolda Cup, Kapolri Cup, and Proliga.
The Police Chief added that West Kalimantan is preparing to host the AVC Asian Volleyball Men’s Club Championship in May 2026. If successfully held, the event will mark a historic milestone, as West Kalimantan would become the first province outside Java Island to host an international volleyball tournament.
At the same event, AVC President Ramon Suzara officially welcomed the opening of Proliga 2026 in Pontianak. He praised the West Kalimantan Provincial Government, the Regional Police, and the Indonesian Volleyball Federation for their commitment to bringing national and international sports events to the region.
