| Robbo Stays Put! Liverpool’s Backline Crisis Shuts Down Tottenham Transfer Talk. |
⚽ Transfer rumors are flying, but this one looks like it’s going nowhere. Andy Robertson has been linked with a surprise move to Tottenham Hotspur, yet Liverpool’s current defensive mess is making one thing clear: Robbo isn’t leaving Anfield anytime soon.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot sounded pretty relaxed when asked about the Scotland captain’s future. Ahead of the Reds’ Champions League clash with Qarabag, Slot made it clear that Robertson is still very much part of the plan.
“Robbo is in the squad tomorrow night,” Slot said. “He’s been part of this team for years, and right now, having him fit and available is massive for us.”
👀 So, Where Did the Tottenham Rumors Come From?
Last week, reports claimed Spurs had approached Liverpool with a £5 million deal for Robertson. The story gained traction because the left-back hasn’t been a guaranteed starter this season after Milos Kerkez arrived from Bournemouth.
Robertson has still featured 22 times in the 2025–26 season, but he’s been honest about wanting more regular minutes. That openness, plus Tottenham’s interest, sparked the transfer chatter.
Still, any move would depend on Liverpool finding a replacement — and that’s where things get tricky.
🚑 Liverpool’s Defense Is in Survival Mode
Liverpool simply can’t afford to lose Robertson right now. Kostas Tsimikas is out on loan at Roma with no recall clause, and the injury list keeps growing.
Joe Gomez picked up a suspected hip injury after colliding with Alisson in the loss to Bournemouth, while Ibrahima Konaté remains unavailable due to a family matter. That leaves Virgil van Dijk as the only senior center-back fit.
“At center-back, we’re basically out of options,” Slot admitted. “Apart from Virgil, there’s no one else available.”
📈 Champions League Liverpool vs League Liverpool
Interestingly, Liverpool look like a different team in Europe. They’re sitting fourth in the Champions League league-phase table, and one more win would lock in a top-eight finish and automatic qualification to the round of 16.
Since Slot took over in 2024, Liverpool have the best Champions League win rate (76.5%), winning 13 of 17 matches.
The Premier League, though? That’s been a grind. The Reds are sixth, 14 points behind Arsenal, and winless in their last five league games — their worst run in years.
🎯 Slot: “We Can Still Win Something”
Despite the pressure and outside noise, Slot isn’t panicking. Even after former vice-captain Jamie Carragher hinted that Champions League qualification is a must, the Dutch coach stayed confident.
“If we improve in both boxes, we can win trophies this season,” Slot said. “If we only fix one side of the game, winning anything becomes really hard.”
🔴 Bottom line: Andy Robertson to Spurs? Not happening — at least not now. With Liverpool’s defense held together by tape and trust, Robbo suddenly looks untouchable. And for Slot, keeping him might be just as important as any January signing.
