West Kalimantan Deputy Governor Krisantus Kurniawan expressed his support for the plan to add new flight routes at Rahadi Oesman Airport in Ketapang Regency. The initiative is considered an important step to strengthen air transportation connectivity while encouraging regional economic growth.

According to Krisantus, the proposed new route to Pangkalan Bun will help reduce flight congestion that has long been concentrated in Pontianak. With additional route options, passenger traffic and flight schedules across West Kalimantan are expected to become more balanced.

He delivered the statement while reviewing the construction and facility upgrades of the new terminal at Rahadi Oesman Airport in Ketapang on Saturday.

Plan To Open Ketapang–Pangkalan Bun Route

Krisantus explained that the planned flight route to Pangkalan Bun could significantly improve regional mobility. Currently, most flights are still centered in Pontianak, which often creates congestion on certain routes.

By introducing the new route, air traffic distribution can be spread to several destinations. This development is expected to ease the burden on Pontianak while improving air transportation access for communities in other regions.

He added that alternative flight routes will make travel more efficient for passengers.

Faster Air Transportation Access

Adding more flight routes is expected to shorten travel time between regions. Air transportation remains one of the most efficient options, especially for people who require high mobility.

Krisantus emphasized that the increase in flight services will provide major benefits for the public. Besides reducing travel time, a wider variety of routes will offer greater flexibility in planning trips.

For example, if flights to Pontianak are fully booked, travelers can choose an alternative route through Pangkalan Bun.

More Travel Options For The Public

The presence of new flight routes will also provide more travel alternatives for residents. This is considered important in improving accessibility and convenience in West Kalimantan’s transportation system.

With more available routes, travelers will no longer rely solely on a single flight corridor. The air transportation system is expected to become more effective and responsive to passenger needs.

This improvement will also strengthen connectivity between regions within West Kalimantan and nearby areas.

Airport Development To Support Regional Economy

Krisantus also highlighted the importance of airport infrastructure development as part of a broader strategy to strengthen regional connectivity. The ongoing upgrades at Rahadi Oesman Airport are seen as a positive development, particularly for southern areas of West Kalimantan.

He revealed that this visit marked the first time he traveled to Ketapang by plane. Previously, he typically reached the area via land transportation.

According to him, the construction of the new terminal represents significant infrastructure progress for the region.

Government Support For Airport Expansion

The regional government has expressed appreciation for efforts to expand and upgrade airport facilities. These improvements are expected to enhance community mobility while stimulating local economic activity.

Currently, Rahadi Oesman Airport serves around seven flights operating to and from Ketapang. In the future, several additional routes are planned, including the new connection to Pangkalan Bun.

With stronger air connectivity, Ketapang is expected to grow more rapidly and attract broader economic activity and investment.

The planned addition of new flight routes at Rahadi Oesman Airport is seen as a strategic step to strengthen air transportation connectivity in West Kalimantan. Besides easing congestion in Pontianak, the initiative is also expected to improve public mobility and support regional economic growth.
