| Zelensky says Moscow is trying to exploit the Iran conflict to strengthen its war against Ukraine and challenge Western countries. |
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Monday that Moscow is attempting to take advantage of the conflict involving Iran for its own strategic interests. The statement was delivered through a post on the social media platform X.
According to Zelensky, Russia is trying to manipulate the situation in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region. He suggested that Moscow is seeking to turn the escalating tensions into a strategic opportunity connected to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
In his remarks, Zelensky argued that Russia is attempting to transform attacks carried out by Iran’s regime against neighboring countries and U.S. military bases into what he described as a “second front.” Such a development, he warned, could effectively expand Russia’s confrontation with Ukraine.
He also stressed that the move could broaden the conflict beyond Ukraine, potentially involving Western countries more directly. For that reason, Zelensky called for stronger international coordination to prevent further escalation.
“We see that Russia is now trying to manipulate the situation in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region for the benefit of its aggression,” Zelensky wrote in his post.
He added that the situation should not be allowed to develop unchecked. According to him, the international community must act together to ensure that the protection of human life and regional stability remains a shared priority.
Zelensky emphasized that acts of aggression should not be given the opportunity to coordinate or reinforce one another. He urged countries affected by the tensions to strengthen cooperation in addressing the increasingly complex geopolitical landscape.
His comments come as global attention remains focused on rising tensions in the Middle East, including developments involving Iran and their potential impact on regional stability and relations with Western nations.
